Terms of use

Version of 15 October 2026

1. The service

OpenRecycleMap is a non-commercial map and directory of recycling points. It shows OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and lets you add and edit points: edits are saved directly to OSM. By using the site you accept these terms.

2. Map data and licence

Recycling point data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. You may use it with the attribution “© OpenStreetMap contributors”; derived databases must use the same licence. See openstreetmap.org/copyright.

3. Your contributions

Points, tags, opening hours and descriptions you enter are sent to OpenStreetMap under your OSM account and become public immediately, together with your OSM user name and the time of the edit. By submitting an edit you:

  • agree to the OpenStreetMap Contributor Terms and to the data being distributed under the ODbL;
  • confirm that you add information you know yourself (seen on site, verified) or have the right to share — copying from Google Maps or other sources whose licence forbids it is not allowed;
  • do not add knowingly false information, advertising or spam. The OSM community reviews edits and reverts vandalism.

Edits made offline are stored on your device and sent to OSM when you are back online.

4. Account and what we store

You log in with an OpenStreetMap account (and Google, if enabled). The site stores your name and user id at the login provider, e-mail and avatar if the provider shares them, an OSM access token to send your edits, a log of edits made on the site (what, when and from which IP address), your favourites and your synchronised OSM edit history. This data is needed for the site to work, is not sold and is not shared with third parties; only the edits themselves go to OSM, at your will.

5. Cookies and browser storage

The site uses cookies for login, chosen language and theme. Your browser stores favourites (without login), map pieces saved for offline use and the queue of unsent edits. There are no advertising trackers. You can clear this data in your browser; the offline map size is managed in the “Network status” panel on the map.

6. Accuracy and liability

Recycling point data is collected by volunteers and may be incomplete or outdated: check opening hours, accepted materials and the point itself before you go. The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of availability or accuracy; we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of this data.

7. Deleting your data

On request we delete your account and related data on the site. Edits already published in OpenStreetMap remain in OSM under its rules.

8. Changes

These terms may be updated; the current version is always on this page, dated at the top.
